Finally, a Garage

Woohoo!  I have a garage.  Here is a shot during the install:  And the finished product. It's getting warm enough that I'll probably paint the siding in the next couple of weeks.  No garage door opener yet, didn't have the wiring for that so I'll be installing it myself later when I have the wiring updated.  Here is a shot from the inside.  It lets in enough light that it's almost as bright as with the door open. Here is what it looks like at night with the lights on.

Ideas

Visited a neighbor's house where they had a diy entry way that I really like: I'm not a huge fan of the current walkway on my place, might see if I can do something like this.

Back Door

Finally put the back door on the garage. Not quite done, but the door is fully mounted and the siding is on.  The pad in the carport isn't level, so it was a bit of a bear cutting some treated 2x4's at a slight angle to create a level pad for the door.  It was too much of a grade to just use shims, and since it's the base, and might need to support weight, it needed a solid piece.  I won't finish it 100% because I need to get an electrical permit submitted and put some outlets in the overhang.  I also won't bother putting the siding on until it warms up enough that I can paint, however I'm considering making a tent over the entrance so I can run a heater and paint it anyway.  That will depend on timing.  The light isn't hooked up yet, but I'll connect it once I plan out the wiring.  I like the fixture, might add some to the front as well.

Storage

I'm a geek for storage stuff.  Found 2 of these Steelcase cabinets for $145 each at the local recycling center. Very heavy, probably 200lbs with the drawers installed.  Here is one in the basement that I'm using for bike parts and tools.  The other goes in the garage for tool and car part storage.

Garage Trim

Finished the trim on the front of the garage. Now it's ready for the garage door.  Trim came pre-primered, but I won't be able to paint the front until it warms up a little more.

Theater Couch

Finally found a decent couch for the basement theater.  Got it cheap off Craigslist.  Pretty much like new.

Garage Stairs

The new garage door is supposed to be installed in about 2 weeks, so I need to get the garage ready.  First was to cover the stairs so that there isn't a liability issue there.  Also, I'd planned on doing this for a while to maximize the usable space.  Code requires that I remove the door anyway now that I've enclosed the garage.  I was able to build it using only existing lumber, and some 2x6's that I bought.  It's designed to be removable, so that I can use the space under it for storage, and so that I can pull it out when the furnace guys arrive to install the new gas furnace.
