Subfloor and Hardwood Sample

Got part of the subfloor installed in the laundry room.  Yesterday I also picked up a 20sqft sample of the hardwood flooring I plan to use in the kitchen.  The laundry room will actually be tiled, but this is a good spot to do a color test.  It's a locally-sourced zebrawood.  I looked at some of the engineered woods and just didn't care for them.  This is solid, tongue and groove hardwood, so it can be refinished and restained any number of times.  I will probably stain it just a hair darker than it looks now.  I'll do some stain tests as I get closer to doing the flooring.

Laundry Room Demolition

Finally doing the final tear down on the laundry room.  Here is the destruction. And after cleaning up I need to frame out the back of the wall where the washer dryer will go, as the plumbing in there was actually poking out of the wall, as there wasn't enough room.  I'll also be removing the old plumbing fittings and putting in a more modern connection so that I reduce the risk of water leaks on the floor.

Track Lights

Got the track lighting in the office wired in, so it looks all swanky now (well...if you can ignore the bare walls, incomplete drywall, rough flooring, etc... I may end up moving where the entry door is to this office, as accommodating the barn door might require a little more clearance.

Flooring...sort of

Was starting to work on the rest of the electrical in the basement this morning, and needed to remove the bamboo flooring I had pulled up in the kitchen to get it out of the way.  Realized that I should go ahead and lay it down as temporary flooring since it will be a while before I get real flooring in the basement.  Had more than I thought, and was able to fill the office, and the hallway.   It's only tapped into place, and a sloppy job at that.  Only wanted to get something down and get it out of the way.  Also went ahead and put one of the Ikea bookshelves back together as I'm rapidly running out of room upstairs.  Finished wiring all of the outlets in the office too, and added one recessed light.  Next I need to wire in the track lights int he office that are behind the duct work.

More Drywall

I finally have all of the rooms isolated, and the furnace completely enclosed.  Here is a shot of the hallway facing the theater door. On closer inspection that door is about 1/4" low on the right side, so I'll have to pull it out and re-hang it, so I didn't do the drywall over and around it. These pictures are standing in front of the theater door, looking down the hallway towards the last office. And here is a reverse angle shot: I'll work on re-hanging the theater door this week, and I'll do the last bit of drywall around the door.  I also have to get some more 2x4's so that I can add some drywall support framing around the storage area under the stairs so that I can finish the drywall there as well.

Inspection, Material and Drywall

Took the day off today so that I could get some materials delivered, and have the mechanical and electrical inspectors come by and check out the work status.  Everything checked out, so I'll be able to wrap up some of the drywall work.  I won't be able to drywall both sides of the walls until I'm closer to done with the electrical work, but this should at least allow me to cover one side of each wall, so that the rooms are more complete, and the hallway in the basement is finally fully enclosed. I did manage to add some drywall to the bottom of the kitchen back wall, so that the wall is more complete now, and all the wiring isn't exposed. That's about all the drywall I'll be able to do there without enlisting some help and building a scaffolding of some sort.
